As a teacher working with students from diverse environments of varying socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, I often use humor to both inspire and motivate my students. Like the great author Mark Twain once said, "Against the assault of laughter nothing can stand." I use this comedic philosophy to accomplish many of my goals in the classroom, and to defuse many of the conflicts that inevitably arise when real questions are being asked and answered, and creativity is being fostered. I am a firm believer in the fact that the only stupid question is the one not asked. I work to engage my students by diversifying my instruction, and introducing student relevant topics. As a student myself, I find boredom breeds indifference. Therefore, I bring a jovial attitude to my classroom as I challenge my students to move beyond their comfort zones in a safe environment.
This same philosophy has been my approach to all my professional endeavors. As a freelance graphic designer, IT consultant, musician, artist, and teacher I have worked with a variety of personalities. I have found, maintaining a positive attitude, coupled with a sense of humor, promotes ongoing and productive working relationships.
In my years of teaching, I have worked with at-risk teenagers, inner-city youths, autistic children, ESL students of every age, and affluent suburban children in both small and large groups. The ability to adapt my approach and teaching methods has afforded me the opportunity of seeing these diverse groups achieve success and enjoyment from my lessons.
